School Days - Apples

Adelaide absolutely loves school. Since day one really, she has never had a hesitation about going to school. Today is her first 'sick day' that she is staying home from school. She isn't exactly what I would consider sick, but she has had a cough for a couple of days and according to her handbook, I think they want her to stay home. Her class spent a week in September learning about apples and also about Johnny Appleseed. Adelaide loves apples and we go to the Farmer's Market each week to get bags of fresh apples. She will eat a whole apple, core and all, easily, and then say she is still hungry.

Adelaide has had one prayer lately - for bedtime, meal time, any time she thinks to pray - it is always the same thing. Her Johnny Appleseed prayer she learned in school:

Oh, the Lord is good to me.
And so I thank the Lord, for giving me the things I need.
The sun, and the rain, and the apple seed.
Oh, the Lord is good to me. Amen.

It is so sweet to hear her praying this in her tiny musical voice. Even though I have heard her pray it dozens of times over the past couple of weeks, it never really gets old. She is definitely all about repetition these days.

10/19/11 Ben's 35th birthday, with Adelaide
Yesterday was Ben's 35th birthday and we had such a lovely day celebrating. We picked him up from work at lunchtime and ate at Sweetwater Tavern. Both kids are very well behaved in restaurants right now which makes for quite a pleasant meal. Last night we had a green curry tofu and some no-bake thumbprint cookies (both recipes from my Whole Foods phone app). This weekend we will have a little get-together at the house with a few friends to continue the celebrations :)
