Adventures in Cairns, Australia: Sky Rail

Ben was working his regular 40+ hours a week for our first three weeks in Australia. He had to get up early each morning to start his day so that his time could overlap a bit with coworkers in America. He handled it very well, but it was a bit of a struggle for the kids and I to try and get adjusted to the new culture, time, etc. without his help for a big part of the day. I think we were all a bit relieved when he finished up work last Saturday and closed his computer, knowing that he was now officially on 'holiday.'

We didn't waste any time to enjoy some spectacular day trips this week. Monday we took the Sky Rail one-way from Kuranda to Cairns. The Sky Rail is basically an enclosed ski lift, sailing through the air above the rainforest. The sights are absolutely breathtaking. There are two stops along the way where you can view the Barron Gorge and walk through the rainforest.

 Surprisingly to me, the kids loved every minute of it. They weren't a bit afraid being up in the air and enjoyed the walks through nature, but kept saying "let's go back to the Sky Rail!". It was a lot of fun for all of us and a short 1.5 hour trip. Anyone coming this way should absolutely do this outing. I think it is something the kids will remember, too.
